Your Root Chakra is your centre of stability and when out of balance you will not feel grounded or connected to earth which could cause you to feel unbalanced, anxious and dizzy, almost like walking on uneven ground. It's the colour red and is located at the base of your spine and relates to fear, anxiety, insecurity, anger, worry, basic survival instincts, especially surrounding money and food, safety, feeling supported, logic and a need for order, vitality, physical space and boundaries.

It is your life force, your zest, your energy to do and accomplish. It is the first chakra and forms a solid base for the energy channels which flow upwards through your spine and is a very important energy centre because it forms the base of all of your energy. Your basic nature and animal responses are governed by how healthy your Root Chakra is.

When the Root Chakra is open and the energy is flowing you are able to feel secure, be present in the here and now and are grounded. You are comfortable in any surroundings and simple tasks are easy to perform. You have no doubt about the decisions you make. When it is blocked you may experience insecurity or fear and a threat to your survival, which may cause a problem in your relationships. If there is excessive energy you may become aggressive, domineering, egotistic, materialistic or greedy.

You may have symptoms of anorexia, obesity, osteoarthritis, auto-immune diseases, haemorrhoids, fatigue, constipation, sciatica, spinal and leg problems or sexual dysfunction. It can affect your adrenal glands and sense of smell, reproductive system, back, spine, hips, legs or feet. Or you may feel unexplainably lazy or have a weight problem if this first Chakra is out of  balance.

Methods to Balance Your Root Chakra

Walk barefoot when you can. Interact with nature. Eat red coloured foods. Picture a red glowing ball of energy at the base of your spine, feel yourself connected to the ground, as this will give you a greater sense of connection and safety whilst repeating the following…

Chakra Affirmation: I am connected to the earth and open to the positive energy that flows through me.
